Extended Observation Unit
ABOUT THE EOU
Gulf Bend Center’s Extended Observation Unit (EOU) is a treatment option for those individuals 18 years or older who are experiencing a crisis situation. A crisis is defined at a state of acute emotional distress in which an individual experiences a temporary inability to cope with a situation by means of his or her usual problem-solving behaviors.
Gulf Bend Center’s EOU is an alternative to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. The individual is allowed to stay up to 48 hours on the unit. During the 48 hours, the individual will be assessed by a Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (licensed counselor or social worker) and a Psychiatric Practitioner to determine if the individual needs a higher level care or can safely return to the community.
