Harmon appointed to Gulf Bend Center's Board

The Lavaca County Commissioners Court recently appointed Sheriff Micah C. Harmon to be a trustee on Gulf Bend Center’s Board.   Micah Harmongraduated from the University of Houston-Downtown Criminal Justice Police Academy in 1984 and began his first full time law enforcement career with the Brookshire, TX Police Department in 1985.  He was hired as a Deputy Sheriff at the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office from 1989 – 1992. He took a short break from law enforcement to assist his parents with ranch operations and was hired back as a Deputy Sheriff for Lavaca County in 1995.  In 1997, he was appointed by the Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court to fill the un-expired term of Lavaca County


Justice of the Peace Precinct One and held Office until November 2004.  He was elected Sheriff of Lavaca County in November 2004. He took office as Sheriff of Lavaca County on January 1, 2005 and was re-elected in 2008, 2012, and 2016.  Sheriff Harmon is currently serving his fourth term as Lavaca County Sheriff.


Sheriff Harmon is a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville.   He is a member of the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas serving on the Legislative Committee and the Jail Advisory Committee, a member of the National Sheriffs’ Association, and is a member and Sgt. At Arms of the South Texas Coastal Sheriffs Alliance.


Sheriff Harmon has one daughter, Kayla Rene Trench of Shiner, TX.
